After completing her Masters in Landscape Architecture at Wageningen University, Xiaoyu began working at the office of Niek Roozen Landscape in 2011.
Xiaoyu has worked on a wide variety of landscape and urban projects at various scales in different countries, from strategic regional visions to detail designs. Her philosophy is that every project has its own unique design process and approach. Regardless of the scale of the project, the technique of sketching with pen and paper is always part of design development. Research is an important element in her design process and provides a better understanding of the landscape, its uses and historical connection.
Working on Chinese projects has always been an interest of Xiaoyu, it allows her to look at the Chinese culture and people from a different perspective. Alongside the language and her professional skills, she provides an invaluable input into the broad cultural aspects in the design. Through a better understanding of culture we can make improved design decisions tailored to different landscapes.
