The Need for Design – A peek in the kitchen of contemporary Dutch Landscape Architecture
2013-05-08
During the symposium, the first copy of the publication “De Noodzaak van Ontwerpen – een kijkje in de keuken van de hedendaagse Nederlandse Landschapsarchitectuur” (The Need for Design – A peek in the kitchen of contemporary Dutch Landscape Architecture) will be presented to a representative of the trade. Many design offices and experts have contributed to the publication. This peek in the kitchen is not only interesting for professional garden and landscape architects and designers but also for design students.
Our office contributed two projects for this book, where we describe and illustrate the design process we follow. We chose a project in Shenyang, China to explain how we work in a different culture and how the Green City philosophy can influence a large-scale project. We also chose the Bos en Lommerplantsoen in Amsterdam to show the resident participation process that we followed resulting in a rich project that the residents feel a part of. By choosing these two projects we are able to show the versatility of the profession, including work at both large and small scales as well as the influence of various clients.
