Dutch team second in competition “Park Russia”

The Dutch team HOSPER – Niek Roozen – Cepezed – Witteveen+Bos finished second in the “Park Russia” competition; the design of the planned theme park close to Moscow.

The “Russia” theme park is a newly planned park of 1600 hectares. It will be an educational and recreational amusement park where visitors can stay one day until two weeks. All regions in Russia will be involved in the plans for the park. The location lies approximately 75 kilometers from the centre of Moscow. The program of the park includes: entertainment, amusement theme parks, sport facilities, education, exhibitions, health care, commercial functions and various themed public spaces and landscapes.

For the second phase of the competition five international teams were selected. The organization had received 180 applications from 41 countries for the first selection phase.

The Dutch team sent in their proposal ‘Park Russia’. The proposal was appreciated because of the contextual approach and the way functions, built program and infrastructure was integrated into a green park-like landscape.

The main source of inspiration for the proposal was Russia itself. The Russian culture with its cities and buildings, and the Russian heroes in art, sports, literature, astronautics and warfare. The spectacular and diverse nature of Russia has also been of great inspiration.

Besides HOSPER, Niek Roozen, Cepezed and Witteveen+Bos the team was supplemented by M.H.A. Hoffman from Wageningen University, John Meuffels MPC, Svetlana van Son from Boomkwekerij Gebr. Van den Berk B.V. and Jacqueline van der Kloet.
