The past 6 months we joined the competition about the new future for the ‘Bataafse Kamp’ in Hengelo. Today we heard our design has been judged the best. A plan based on luxurious urban living, in beautiful green surroundings. An integrated design for building and park.
The former school ‘Bataafse Kamp’ and the ‘Bataafse Park’ are located in the centre of Hengelo. A characteristic building in a park of more than 2 hectares.
With three daring interventions we turn a characteristic school into a unique residential building. The monumental stairwells, the austere facades from the time of reconstruction, the main shape around a beautiful courtyard, all elements we have retained and chosen as a starting point.
With an actual breakthrough through the building we really give the ‘Bataafse Kamp’ an new face on the ‘Drienerstraat’ and connect that street with the park. By lifting the top floor we create beautiful penthouses, built around their own large roof terrace. And with several terraces, balconies and winter gardens we provide all the houses with large outdoor spaces.
Read MoreThe park will be given a beautiful upgrade, while strengthening its modernist character and by adding new user functions. The beautiful existing trees are an important startingpoint for the design of the park. The central pond will be larger and equipped with a water organ. The old sand ridge will be restored and the art routes through the park will be given more structure. An stretched area of perennials on the corner of the ‘Enschedesestraat’ will create a colourful entrance to the city. The use of colourful plants will make the park a real attraction for young and old.
